MONROE – Following the school massacre in Florida, the Monroe Village Police Department wants to reassure residents that it began taking a proactive approach to active shooter incidents many years ago.
In a post on its Facebook page, the department wrote that all of its officers “have received specialized training by the New York State Department of Homeland Security in Active Shooter Response.”
The post said they “constantly train with school staff in all schools in the Village of Monroe. The Monroe-Woodbury Safety and Security Director also does a great job in training staff and assessing security risks at the schools.
The officers of the Monroe Police Department conduct daily foot patrols within all of the schools, including private schools as well as pre-schools and day care centers. We also monitor all of the video cameras that the Monroe-Woodbury School District has in real time.”
The police hierarchy said they have officers who are trained instructors in active shooter response and they offer this training for free to any civilian, business or organization.
“Please do not hesitate to call us to have us do a security assessment and provide training to your organization,” the Facebook post said.
