EnCon officers assist hikers down Sugarloaf Mountain

TOWN OF HUNTER – State Environmental Conservation forest rangers assisted two hikers down Sugarloaf Mountain on Sunday after one slid into a boulder on icy trail and sprained his ankle. He had been wearing micro-spikes, but lost his grip on the ice flow
They contacted Greene County 911 and alerted rangers that they were on the Devil’s Path at around 2,850 feet in elevation.
They were located by the rangers and a Haines Falls volunteer firefighter with the injured hiker being administered first aid and had his injured ankle splinted.
Tannersville Fire Department staff stages an off-road utility vehicle and the patient was assisted down Sugarloaf Mountain to an off-trail vehicle where he was transported out and taken to the Health Alliance Broadway Campus in Kingston for further treatment.
