KINGSTON – An Ellenville man, who had rape charges against him dropped by an Ulster County grand jury last May, was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Monday in connection with another rape.
Jean Colon, 23, was sentenced to 22 years in state prison plus 20 years of post-release supervision. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life and an order of protection was issued in favor of the victim and two members of her household, which will remain until January 29, 2048.
Colon pled guilty on November 9, 2017 to first-degree rape in satisfaction of a two-count indictment that included a charge of burglary. He admitted that on June 23, 2017, after breaking into the victim’s home in Ellenville, he engaged in forcible sex. He was arrested on the day of the offense following an investigation by Ellenville Village Police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, State Police Forensic Identification Unit and the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.
Colon was found a few hours later at a bus stop.
