TOWN OF WALLKILL – Troop F State Police, which handles coverage on the west side of the Hudson River and includes the counties of Ulster, Greene, Sullivan, Orange, and Rockland, has launched a drone program.
Trooper top brass was at regional headquarters Tuesday to announce the
program and demonstrate the unmanned devices.
Captain Scott Reichel said they will be a big help in many scenarios.
“What these will primarily be used for is to support State Police law enforcement missions and public safety missions such as search and rescue type operations. We can use them for crime scene documentation and we are exploring using them for accident reconstruction purposes,” Reichel said.
Troop F, which is one of four troops statewide to initially receive the drones, has two of the $7,000 devices.
The state purchased two initially and the State Trooper Foundation donated another 16.
