TOWN OF WALLKILL – Troop F State Police, which handles coverage
on the west side of the Hudson River and includes the counties of Ulster,
Greene, Sullivan, Orange, and Rockland, has launched a drone program.

Trooper top brass was at regional headquarters today (Tuesday) to announce
the program and demonstrate the unmanned devices.
Captain Scott Reichel said the devices will be a big help in a number
of scenarios.

“What these will primarily be used for is to support State Police
law enforcement missions and public safety missions such as search and
rescue type operations. We can use them for crime scene documentation
and we are exploring using them for accident reconstruction purposes,”
he said.
Troop F, which is one of four troops statewide to initially receive the
drones, has two of the $7,000-a-piece devices.

The state purchased two initially and the State Trooper Foundation donated
another 16.
