MID-HUDSON – Comments coming from the White House have prompted a call for a local response.
Newburgh City Councilman Jonathan Jacobson will have no objection when the issue comes up for a vote on Monday night.
“You are watching the news and this made me think that our council should have a resolution condemning in the strongest way the racism and vulgar comments on immigration made by the president,” Jacobson said.
Some people at a private meeting with President Trump last week quoted him as saying people from Africa and Haiti come from “shithole” places.Objections do not stop there. Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY-17) has cosponsored a resolution calling for the censure of the president over his “disparaging remarks.”
