MAHOPAC – Anthony DiCarlo calls it a ‘dream come true!’ The career educator and former member of the Putnam County Legislature was named Thursday evening as Mahopac’s new Superintendent of Schools succeeding Dennis Creedon.
DiCarlo, a resident of Mahopac, currently serves as an elementary school principal in the New Rochelle School District.
The new chief school administrator said he was “honored and humbled” to have been selected by the Board of Education. “This has been my ultimate dream to work with my community, great faculty and staff and wonderful parents.”
DiCarlo’s five-year contract begins on February 26. He will earn $235,000 in his new post.
DiCarlo is a graduate of Iona College. He served as a social studies teacher for several years before becoming Dean of Students in Yonkers. His administrative career began in New Jersey and then shifted to Harrison, Tuckahoe, Lakeland and finally New Rochelle. DiCarlo served for six years on the Putnam Legislature starting in 2004.
DiCarlo was lauded by Mahopac Board of Education President Leslie Mancuso. “We are thrilled. Anthony came through the selection process with flying colors.”
Creedon thanked the district for his tenure in Mahopac: “Mahopac is a very special place and I wish Mr. DiCarlo all the luck in the world in his new position.” Creedon also thanked the Mahopac community for the support he received during his three-plus years on the job.
The school board also accepted the resignation Thursday of Assistant Superintendent Ron Clamber who left the district last Friday to become an assistant superintendent in lower Westchester.
Trustees appointed Debra Legato as assistant superintendent through the end of June. She will receive $800 per day for the interim position.
