WHITE PLAINS – A New Rochelle man was arraigned in Westchester
County Court on Tuesday on a charge of attempted aggravated murder in
connection with the September 25, 2017 shooting of a Yonkers police officer.

Frank Valencia, 17, was charged with four counts each of attempted aggravated
murder and attempted murder, and one count each of criminal possession
of a weapon, unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition-feeding
device and assault.

Valencia’s accomplice, Jerry Reyes, 21, was charged with criminal
possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition-feeding
device.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. said that on
September 25, two police officers responded to reports of a suspicious
parked car in the Park Hill section of Yonkers. As officers got out of
their patrol car and approached the vehicle occupied with Valencia and
Reyes, Valencia opened fire and one of officers was shot in the jaw. Backup
arrived and while officers returned fire, the injured officers was carried
to an ambulance and rushed to a hospital.

Valencia was also injured in the shootout, was taken to a hospital and
arraigned on the murder charge.

Reyes was also arrested at the scene.

A loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a high-capacity magazine
and several bullets were recovered from the car.

Valencia faces life in prison if convicted; Reyes faces up to 15 years.
