GOSHEN – After serving as Orange County Health commissioner for nearly five years, Dr. Eli Avila resigned on Friday.
County Executive Steven Neuhaus appointed Dr. Jennifer Roman as acting commissioner. She will also continue in her capacity as county medical examiner.
Avila said he was leaving to pursue “other professional interests, as well as to join a private law practice in New York City.”
A search for a permanent health commissioner will begin immediately.
