Investigation underway into death of Poughkeepsie man

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the City of Poughkeepsie are investigating
how a 68-year-old man sustained serious injuries in his home on January
2. He died in the hospital on Tuesday, January 9.

Police were asked to check on the welfare of the man who lived at 2 Wantaugh
Avenue after family members were unable to contact him for several days.

The man, whose name was not immediately made public, was transported by
ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he underwent brain surgery
and was put into a medically induced coma.

City Police said he died this Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

The investigation is continuing into how the man was injured and there
is no current threat to public safety, police said.
