WHITE PLAINS – Ben Boykin
was the solid choice to lead the Westchester County Board of Legislators
for the next two years. He was elected on a 13 to 3 vote during a brief
reorganization meeting Monday night.

Alfreda Williams was elected vice-chair.

Boykin pledged an “aggressive agenda” in dealing with some
significant issues.

“We will have to balance many competing interests to serve the people
of the county with limited and sometimes dwindling resources. With a real
budget deficit of maybe over $100 million, we will act in a fiscally prudent
and responsible manner to meet the needs of our residents.”
Boykin said he sees the legislature and a “co-equal” branch
of government with the county executive.

Among the priorities the Boykin mentioned is reintroducing the Immigrant
Protection Act, passed by the previous legislature but vetoed by former
County Executive Robert Astorino.
