ELLENVILLE – A man wanted for violating an order of protection
on behalf of his estranged girlfriend has been arrested after he fought
with Ellenville Police officers who were attempted to arrest him.
After John Garrett, 52, fled his girlfriend’s residence, he was stopped in a gas station parking lot on Route 209.  Police said he initially complied with their directive to step out of his car, but then became combative and assaulted officers who had to taser him.  One officer was treated at Ellenville Regional Hospital.
Garrett again became combative while being processed at police headquarters.  He was charged with felonies of assault and criminal mischief as well as resisting arrest and sent to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
