POUGHKEEPSIE – A total of 72 people were arrested in Dutchess County during the 17-day holiday period from December 15, 2017 through January 1, 2018. The arrests included 67 for impaired driving and five others.
The special police details were funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation, which awarded the Dutchess County program a grant for the fifth year in a row.
“Throughout the holiday enforcement crackdown campaign law enforcement worked tirelessly, often in severe weather conditions including this extended cold snap, to assure safety for motorists and families on our roadways,” said Dutchess STOP-DWI Coordinator William Johnson. “The commitment and coordinated efforts of our law enforcement partners reaffirms that if you choose to drive impaired by alcohol or drugs in Dutchess County, there is a high probability you will be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted. It’s simply not worth the risk.”
Those arrested included residents of Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, Rockland and Columbia counties, as well as from East Aurora, New York, Jacksonville, North Carolina and Sussex, New Jersey.
Law enforcement agencies participating in the crackdown included the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, town police from Poughkeepsie, Hyde Park, and East Fishkill, City of Poughkeepsie, and villages of Red Hook and Millerton.
