MIDDLETOWN – Firefighters battled a blaze in a residence at 51
Horton Avenue in Middletown this morning (Wednesday).

City Fire Chief Sam Barone said the two-alarm fire kept firefighters busy
for some three hours.

“Our guys came on the scene and found heavy fire in the basement.
This house is an older house and has balloon construction so it went to
the first floor, second floor, all the way to the attic – followed
the walls all the way up. We had about 50 guys on the scene. There were
no injuries,” he said. “We made an interior attack. We’re
knocking it down, but it’s just a little hard because it’s
in the walls; we had to go look for it and open walls.”
Mutual aid from area fire departments assisted Middletown firefighters
at the scene.
