MID-HUDSON – State Police are reminding residents of the Mid-Hudson Valley to be vigilant as criminals are prone to target unaware shoppers.
Troopers offer tips to help people avoid becoming a victim this holiday season:

Be aware of your surroundings when you are out shopping.
Secure valuables in the trunk of your vehicle.  Never leave anything in plain sight.
Do not leave your vehicle running unattended.
Be aware of telemarketing and donation scams.
Check the ATM before taking out money. Look for any suspicious device that may have been installed onto the ATM and be mindful of “shoulder surfers” who may try to steal your information.
Park in a well-lit area.
There is safety in numbers. When shopping, go with others.

Remember if you see something, say something and contact the police.
