CLERMONT – The first community solar project in Columbia County is officially online serving 40 customers.
Owned by Hudson Solar, the facility in the Town of Clermont will be providing electricity credits for customers in Columbia and neighboring counties, said founder Jeff Irish.
The solar farm follows the purchase model rather than the subscription model, Irish noted.
“Customers actually purchase and own the solar panels so they actually get the tax credits and the NYSERDA rebate directly themselves and essentially by cutting out the middleman, the finance company, the savings are much greater; the savings are in excess of 30 percent,” he said.
Under the subscription model, customers save 10 percent on their electric bills.
Participants in the Hudson Solar project must purchase a minimum of three panels at an average cost of $750 to $1,000 each.
