Hudson Valley employment growth continues

ALBANY – The new job growth
mode in the Hudson Valley continued in the 12 months ending in November.

The state Department of Labor reported Thursday that jobs in Greene County
rose by 6.1 percent, the second highest rate in the state. Only Seneca
County, with 16.1 percent job growth beat out Greene.

Sullivan County’s jobs rose by 3.0 percent while the Dutchess-Putnam
Metropolitan Division saw a 2.7 percent increase in jobs.

Columbia County followed with 2.3 percent growth.

Ulster County registered 1.7 percent increase in jobs and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester
Metro Area saw 1.4 percent job growth.

Overall, private sector jobs grew by 13,100, or 1.6 percent, to 808,800
in the 12 months ending in November. This was the strongest November in
three years, the labor department reported.

Education and health services was the region’s fastest growing sector,
up 3.3 percent year-to-year. Job growth in trade, transportation and utilities
increased by 2.2 percent; 70 percent of that sector is centered in retail
trade, the labor department noted.
