NYACK – Funeral services are expected next week for Nyack firefighter and former captain David Jahnes of Nyack Fire Patrol.
The 58-year-old volunteer fireman, who served as a member of the Nyack Fire Patrol and Nyack Fire Department since 2001, responded to 20 North Broadway in Nyack at 8:37 a.m. on December 18 for an unknown chemical odor. When he arrived on the scene and got out of the fire truck, he began complaining of shortness of breath and chest pains, fire department officials said Wednesday.  He was taken by ambulance to Nyack Hospital and then transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern where he suffered cardiac failure and could not be revived.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 with a firematic service to follow at 6 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Hannemann Funeral Home. Further details will be released by the family in the next few days.
