MIDDLETOWN – Cornerstone Family Healthcare headquartered in Newburgh now owns Middletown Community Health Center.
The two agencies finalized an asset purchase agreement on Wednesday, transferring ownership of the Middletown group’s medical practices and other assets to Cornerstone, which became the new operator effective today.
Middletown Community Health Center had faced some financial and operational challenges in recent months and it was determined they would ultimately result in the closure of Middletown Community Health Center resulting in the loss of health services to the thousands of patients for which they care.
“Throughout our 50-year history, Cornerstone has always been guided by the belief that all members of our community deserve access to high-quality health care,” said Cornerstone President Linda Muller. “When we learned of Middletown Community Health Center’s recent troubles, we immediately offered our assistance, knowing full well what the closure of Middletown Community Health Center could mean for the community.”
By bringing the Middletown practices under the Cornerstone umbrella, “we can help to ensure that the more than 12,000 patients who call Middletown Community Health Center their medical home can continue to access the services they need when they need them,” Muller said.
Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano said Cornerstone’s takeover will ensure that the Middletown patients can continue to access their care. He said the agreement between the two organizations “preserves essential jobs and health care resources in our community.”
Cornerstone has offered employment to every member of Middletown Community Health Center staff, thus preserving jobs and ensuring patients can continue to receive services from the medical providers and support staff with whom they have relationships and who are familiar with their history and needs.”
Cornerstone will now operate the following practices:
Primary care practice at 10 Benton Avenue in Middletown
Pediatrics practice at 14 Grove Street in Middletown
Dentistry practice at 27 North Street in Middletown
Primary care practice at 99 Cameron Street in Pine Bush
Primary care practice at 140 Hammond Street in Port Jervis
Primary care and behavioral health practice at 221 Broad Street in Milford, PA.
