NEW ROCHELLE – Westchester County’s newest drug dropbox is the lobby of New Rochelle police headquarters. Funded as part of a state grant, it was one of 12 units purchased in response to the growing opioid addiction crisis.
The Dropbox is available day and night for residents to dispose of unused and expired medications that are later incinerated to keep them away from people who might otherwise abuse them.
Dropboxes are located in almost every Westchester police department with others in pharmacies and the Michaelean Office Building.
“We must attack this national health crisis from every front, and raising awareness about the importance of safe disposal and making it more convenience for residents will help,” said County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler.
