ALBANY – Governor Cuomo would like to continue his shared services plan among counties and their municipalities. He made the proposal on Monday.
The new year would be the second that the shared services plan would be in effect and it won immediate universal support from area county leaders including Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus.
“I as a county executive and former town supervisor see a lot of opportunities, whether it be with dispatching or some different public works or with other avenues such as assessing services, see that there are ways that you can merge local and county government and save taxpayer dollars,’ Neuhaus said.
Ulster Executive Michael Hein said reducing property taxes “has been a central vision” for the governor. The continued shared services proposal “will help eliminate wasteful government spending, finding efficiencies in our counties, effectively reducing property taxes statewide.”
Greene County Legislature Chairman Kevin Lewis said with the second year
of shard services, “New York is once again serving as a national
model for government efficiency.”
Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez said the shared services plan “can provide real relief to taxpayers across the state.”
Rockland County Executive Edwin Day said the plan will help local taxpayers save money. “The Hudson Valley is expensive to live in and we know we must do more with less in order to keep our community affordable.”
