MONTICELLO – Sullivan County opened two warming shelters through noon on Saturday because of the bitterly cold weather.
They are located at the Ted Stroebele Recreation Center at 5 Jefferson Street in Monticello and at the United Methodist Church at 170 North Main Street in Liberty.
County officials said everyone is welcome to stop in and warm up as those facilities are remaining open all night.
The county is also reminding people that the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which can provide funds for fuel and heating system repair or replacement, is ongoing, and aid for emergency heating situations will be available starting on January 2, per state rules.
