BEACON – City property taxes in Beacon in 2018 are declining with the new $20.14 million general fund budget.
The city council approved virtually the same spending plan that Mayor Randy Casale initially proposed.
The homestead tax rate will go down by just under 2.6 percent while the non-homestead rate will drop by just under 3.8 percent.
Casale attributes the budget successes to economic growth in the city.
“I think we added $54 million to our assessment this year between properties going up and things being built,” he said.
The budget stays under the state tax cap and used $172,600 from the reserve
funds to balance it.
