PLATTEKILL – The Plattekill
Post Office on Old Firehouse Road in Plattekill was evacuated Tuesday
after employees found a suspicious package, according to State Police
spokesman Steven Nevel.

The nearby Plattekill Elementary School was ordered by State Police to
be placed in a perimeter lockdown as a precaution. That meant that individuals
were not allowed to leave or enter the building, said Wallkill Central
School District Superintendent of Schools Kevin Castle.
As a result there was a delay in dismissal of students so the district
used its emergency call system to provide parents and guardians with updates
from the police.

Troopers continue to investigate the situation.
