NEWBURGH – Beacon City Police Chief Douglas Solomon is going to
be the next Newburgh City police chief, City Manager Michael Ciaravino
announced Monday night. That appointment is subject to the civil service
commission’s confirming his qualifications meet Newburgh’s
requirements.

Solomon has been the full-time chief in Beacon for the past several years.
Previously, he retired from the Monticello Village Police Department.
He currently also serves as mayor of the Village of Monticello.

Ciaravino said Solomon is “eager” to relocate to Newburgh
as required for the chief’s post. That would require Solomon to
resign as Monticello mayor.

Ciaravino cited Solomon’s experience in police work and ability
to form relationships with the community among the reasons why he has
selected Solomon.

For the past number of years, Newburgh has not had an acting chief, but
has had lieutenants serving as officers-in-charge.

If Solomon meets the requirements of Newburgh’s Civil Service Commission,
he could start in his new job in short order.
