TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE –
A scam that has been reported in Putnam and Ulster counties has now reached
Dutchess.

Town Police in Poughkeepsie are alerting residents and shoppers along
the Route 9 commercial corridor of a parking lot scam incident that occurred
on Wednesday.

A shopper was approached by a large framed black man with a shaved head
and mustache. He claimed he needed a jump start for his vehicle then asked
for a ride. Once in the car, he immediately pressured the shopper for
money. During the car ride, the man asked to be taken to several locations
and at each stop had another reason to ask for additional money.

The shopper eventually drove off leaving the man at one of the locations.

The motorist said at no time did he feel threatened by the man.

Police say if you are approached by that man, decline providing assistance,
do not allow him in your vehicle and call town police at 845-485-3666.
