Source says when Wallkill Police released
surveillance video, he was recognized and turned himself in. Wallkill
Police Chief Robert Hertman did not confirm the development, but said
an update on the case will be provided this afternoon. More details as
they become available.
TOWN OF WALLKILL – Police released portions of surveillance video
taken at the Galleria at Crystal Run in the Town of Wallkill that show
the male suspect, his female companion and two small children as they
entered the mall on Sunday afternoon, moments after the shooting, and
as they walked away from the second floor scene.
The man fired one round from a handgun into the floor with either bullet fragments or floor tile fragments ricocheting and striking a 49-year-old Goshen woman and her 12-year-old son in the legs. They sustained lacerations.
Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman said late Tuesday afternoon they hope the people on the video will be recognizable to someone in the public.
“The video we are putting out basically shows the steps, the direction of travel and paints a clear picture of where they were in the mall also provides some details, which we hope are going to help identify the suspects,” the chief said. “We have a significant amount of additional video including video that shows victims and witnesses that we are opting not to release at this time.”
“It is clear that they know exactly what happened,” Hertman said of the suspect and the woman. Police do not know the relationship between the two adults at this time.
Anyone who may recognize either person is asked to call Wallkill Police day or night at 845-692-6757.
