WASHINGTON – As Congress returns to Washington today, Senate Democrats will attempt to stave off approval of the administration’s tax plan. The House approved it before recessing for the Thanksgiving weekend.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D, NY) told Mid-Hudson News he is hoping to garner support to kill the measure.
“We are trying to persuade some of our Republican senators to have the courage to oppose this bill and then we can put together a bi-partisan bill out in the sunlight – not behind closed doors – that really favors the middle class not the very wealthy,” Schumer said. “We’re pushing to get that done.”
The Senate could take up the Republican bill by Thursday.
