TOWN OF WALLKILL – The police and mall security response to the
shooting incident at the Galleria at Crystal Run on Sunday was appropriate
for the situation, Wallkill Police Chief Robert Hertman said.

A man fired one round from a handgun into the floor on the second level
of the shopping center around 3 p.m. Two people sustained minor injuries
and police continue to look for the suspect.

Hertman said all emergency responders followed proper protocols.

“The response was immediate between the police response and the
mall staff and others. The mall instituted their lockdown procedure. I
was there within minutes after the incident and every single store was
in lockdown mode and all civilians that were in the main area of the mall
had already been evacuated,” he said. “The response was very
professional and I believe the quick and professional response by mall
staff and law enforcement personnel prevented any further injuries from
occurring.”
Several thousand people were shopping on Sunday.

The shooter is still being sought.
