NEWBURGH – A Newburgh manpled guilty in Orange County Court on
Wednesday to the felony of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting
it n connection with an auto collision that killed a gas station employee
in the City of Newburgh.
At the time that Milton Galdamez-Pena, 22, pled guilty, he admitted that at about 4:30 p.m. on July 30, he drove a car over the employee, Jaspal Singh, 21, who had been working at the Shell gas station at 405 Broadway.
After the car ran over the worker, Galdamez-Pena admitted that he put the car in reverse and backed over the man. At that point, he got out of the car, looked at the severely injured man and then drove away without reporting the incident.
He was later arrested by Newburgh City Police.
Galdamez-Pena is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Graig Stephen Brown on January 16, 2018.
“There is no excuse for leaving someone you have seriously injured, except to get that person help, or to report the incident to the proper authorities,” District Attorney David Hoovler said. “This defendant admitted failing to take action that both the law and common humanity require.”
