KINGSTON – The Ulster County Legislature, remains in Republican hands, by one seat, 13-12. Majority control hinged on a tight three-way race in District 22, Shandaken, where John Parete beat Democratic challenger Kathleen Nolan by just 20 votes, 1038-1018.
One other upset was Democrat Jennifer Schwartz-Berky, who lost her 7th District seat to Republican Brian Woltman.  Berky may have been hampered by a minor traffic stop video which went viral nationwide, after being leaked to the public. Additionally, former 1st Ward Kingston alderwoman Lynn Eckert is now the Legislator-elect for District 5, after ousting fellow Democrat Peter Loughran in the primary.
Across the river, Republicans remain in solid control of the Dutchess legislature.
