NEWBURGH – There has been no permanent police chief in the City of Newburgh for some time and officials hope to name one in the next two months.
A main sticking point to the selection so far is the city’s residency requirement. No qualified candidates have committed to living in the city.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino said he hopes to widen the pool of candidates.
“The last two candidates were interviewed and what we have done is with a new posting, we have modified some of the terms of the job posting, we are hoping it will cast a wider net and that we are going to be working quickly to fulfill our desire to name a permanent police chief and fire chief,” he said.
Newburgh faces the same situation in naming a fire chief, which also comes with a residency requirement.
