Heavy rains cause flooding, evacuations

MID-HUDSON – The heavy
rains of the past 24 hours have prompted concerns of possible flooding,
but in Sullivan County, it became a reality.
Sullivan County Emergency Management reported early this (Monday) morning
that flooding was occurring in the Livingston Manor area. The county agency
called on residents of Pearl Street to evacuate immediately. Residents
were advised to call 911 if they needed assistance. As a result of the
flooding, schools in Livingston Manor were cancelled today.
Because of flooding, old Route 17 by the old airport in the Town of Liberty was shut down at 3:40 a.m.
At 4:45 a.m., the Roscoe fire boat was called for a water rescue in Livingston Manor and five minutes later, the Hurleyville Fire Department was called out for a water rescue at the entrance to Morningside Park with a vehicle with occupants stuck in three feet of water.
On the Thruway southbound, after 1 a.m. fallen trees blocked the left lane of the highway between Kingston exit 19 and New Paltz exit 18.
On Sunday night, first responders were called to several downed trees, some blocking roadways and others bringing down power lines.
Orange and Rockland Utilities reported as of 10 p.m. on Sunday that it restored power to more than 2,000 customers since declaring a storm alert on Sunday.
