NEWBURGH – A Newburgh city police officer who placed an Instagram post showing a confederate flag and an image of an individual with his pants pulled partially down is no longer with the police department.
City Manager Michael Ciaravino revealed on Monday night that the incident was investigated by an outside agency.
“The investigation concluded that one individual was solely responsible for the posting,” the city manager said. “At the conclusion of the investigation, the individual was suspended. Since that time, this individual has separated from city service effective September 30, 2017.”
The former officer, who placed the post on the PBA Instagram account, was highly criticized by union leadership and city officials for placing the insensitive entry online.
