Brewster man charged with attempted murder in stabbing outside restaurant

BREWSTER – Authorities
have arrested a 29-year-old Brewster man on charges of attempted murder,
assault and criminal possession of a weapon following a stabbing outside
El Pueblo Restaurant and Lounge on Main Street in Brewster.

An investigation revealed that on Sunday, October 22 Celso Cantoral-Cruz
stabbed a 23-year-old Brewster resident in the abdomen outside the restaurant
and fled on foot. He was located inside his Main Street residence.

The victim remains in critical condition at Danbury Hospital, police said.

Cantoral-Cruz was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $250,000
cash bail or $500,000 bond.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Bureau
of Criminal Investigation at the State Police Brewster barracks at 845-677-7300
or 845-279-8656. All calls can be kept confidential.

Investigating the stabbing are State Police and the Putnam County District
Attorney’s Office.
