Young: “… EMS, paramedics courses …”

PORT JERVIS – Residents of western Orange County and neighboring
Pike County PA will be able to take college courses in Port Jervis in
the months ahead as SUNY Orange is developing an extension center in that
city.
College President Dr. Kristine Young hopes classes could begin as soon as January, assuming renovations are completed.
The courses, to be offered in a county facility at 150 Pike Street, will cater to the educational needs of the prospective students.
“We have talked about EMS, paramedics courses would possibly make sense and have a good audience,” Young said. “We are, with great anticipation, watching how healthcare is changing in this country. We project that there are going to be workers in healthcare that don’t exist right now.”
Young told members of the Tri-State Chamber of Commerce that they are exploring other courses including introductory college math and English, GED courses, workforce development, and those in the hospitality field.
The Port Jervis facility will include three classrooms and offices in a building shared with Orange County Government offices.
