Sullivan, Greene counties have highest private sector growth rate in region

ALBANY – Sullivan and
Greene counties scored the highest private sector job growth rate in the
region in September, according to statistics released by the state labor
department on Wednesday.

Each county registered 2.9 percent job growth when compared by the same
month in 2016.

Columbia County jobs grew by 1.7 percent while they were up in Ulster
County by 1.2 percent, by 1.0 percent in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester
Metro Area, and by 0.3 percent in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division.

For the 12-month period ending this September, private sector employment
in the Hudson Valley increased by 7,400 or 0.9 percent, to 796,600.

Jobs were added in educational and health services; professional and business
services; trade, transportation and utilities; and other services.

Job losses were centered in leisure and hospitality; natural resources,
mining and construction; manufacturing; and information.
