Elderly man in critical after being struck by car in unlit area

ROSENDALE – An 85-year-old man is in critical condition at Albany Medical Center after being struck as he walked across Route 32 in the Town of Rosendale just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 15.
Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies said A 50-year-old New Paltz man was traveling south on Route 32 when he swerved his car to avoid the pedestrian who was crossing the road. The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was crossing the roadway at night in an unlit area where the speed limit is 55 MPH. The motorist did not see him in time to avoid the accident.
The name of the pedestrian was withheld pending notification of family members.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Rosendale Police Department, Bloomington Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services and Lifenet of New York.
