PORT JERVIS –Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker will be running unopposed next month for the second time. In his first bid, he defeated then Mayor Russell Potter.
Decker, a Democrat, would prefer to have an opponent. He urged potential candidates to step forward with a five-year plan to move Port Jervis forward.
“I had a five-year strategic plan; I am in my fourth of the fifth year,” the mayor said. “I have added to my strategic plan and when a new council comes on I will pitch the new strategic plan. It’s not as big as the original one, but it has definitely been modified and it will move Port Jervis forward.”
Decker’s late father, Ross Decker, served as Port Jervis mayor from 2002 to 2003. Ross said at the time he would serve only one term.
