NEW CITY – The Hungry Hollow Bridge overpass in Chestnut Ridge has been closed indefinitely after a truck driving on the Thruway below struck it on Wednesday afternoon.
State officials are inspecting the structure to determine the extent of damage and could not rule out full replace.
“This is obviously a very serious situation and we want to make sure that the state develops a plan to address it,” said Rockland County Executive Edwin Day. “We need to make sure that there is a plan in place to assure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians who use that roadway.”
Hungry Hollow Road, which is maintained by the county, is closed between Old Nyack Turnpike and Jon Leif Lane.
