PATTERSON – A head-on crash on Route 22 in Patterson early Monday claimed the life of a Westchester County man.
Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies said around 6:20 a.m. an SUV driven by Damiana Mackoon, 47, of Patterson was southbound. She attempted to pass a tractor-trailer near Thunder Ridge and plowed head-on into an oncoming minivan driven by Luis Alberto-Arpi, 56, of Ossining. Alberto-Arpi died at the scene. Mackoon was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital with what authorities said were non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff Donald Smith said as of yesterday, no summonses had been issued but the crash remains under investigation.
Assisting the Putnam Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies, the Pawling Fire Department, Putnam County Battalion 12 Coordinator Ron Davies and members of the Patterson and Putnam Lake Fire Police.
