CHATHAM – Two individuals were arrested for illegal drug activity in the Village of Chatham.       
The investigation began after the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received several tips from Chatham residents reporting possible illegal drug activity in the village. Undercover investigators focused on the Locust Street area and developed information and lead that the illegal drug activity involved the sales and distribution of cocaine.
At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit with the assistance of the Columbia-Greene Shared Services Response Team executed a search warrant at 16 Locust Street n the Village of Chatham.  Two people were arrested.
Lawrence Posey, 40, of Swedesboro, New Jersey was charged with felonies of criminal sale of a controlled substance and criminal possession of drugs with intent to sell. He was sent to the Columbia County Jail without bail.
Kayla Hanson, 27, of Chatham, was charged with felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession with intent to sell. She was also charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child for having her child present during the illicit drug activity. She was sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
Investigation revealed that Posey traveled from New Jersey to Chatham to sell drugs. Approximately 20 grams of cocaine with a street value of $2,000 were seized from the Locust Street location along with packaging materials, scales, and other drug paraphernalia.
Assisting the sheriff’s office in the investigation were the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Hudson City Police, Capital District Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Columbia County Probation Department.
