The city still plans to repair Wall Street’s iconic canopies, as needed
KINGSTON – The Pike Plan, which governed the canopies over some 40 businesses on Wall and North Front streets in Kingston is no more. The city’s common council voted this week to abolish it.
Mayor Steven Noble, who proposed doing away with the plan, said the city still wants to repair any structural issues with the overhead system with the cost spread out over the entire city.
“At this point our goal is to fix the health and safety-related
issues that were paid for by a grant a few years ago to rebuild them,”
Noble said. “At this point I’m just going to focus on some
health and safety issues.”
The city is in litigation with contractors hired to perform repair work on the canopies, maintaining the work was shoddy.
