GOSHEN – A Middletown man was arraigned in Orange County Court on Tuesday in the beating death of a man along railroad tracks in that city.
Primitivo Sosa, 27, was charged with two counts of manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, and three counts of assault in the death of the 31-year-old victim.
On September 3, at 4:30 a.m., Sosa allegedly went to the railroad right-of-way near Low Avenue in Middletown, were a number of men were sleeping near the tracks. Sosa allegedly had a dispute with the victim, wrapped a flexible object around his neck, dragged him by the neck with the object, and struck him before leaving. He allegedly returned about two hours later, struck the victim 10 or more times in the head with his fist.
The man died the next day in the hospital.
Sosa was arrested by Middletown City police on September 5. During his arraignment, Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill set bail at $500,000 cash or bond. He remains in the Orange County Jail.
“Violence has no place in our communities,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Those who resort to violence to settle disputes, even if they do not use weapons, must be held accountable for their actions.”
