GOSHEN – A Kingston man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Monday to a charge of vehicular manslaughter in connection with a drunk driving crash in which his passenger was killed.
At about 1:46 p.m. on December 22, 2016, James Black, 29, was driving a pickup truck on Quaker Street in the Town of Newburgh when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. His passenger, Detrell Pittman, 37, also of Kingston, was killed. Black was injured in the crash.
Black allegedly was speeding while under the influence of alcohol. The indictment alleges his blood alcohol content was .19 percent.
Under terms of the guilty plea before County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown, Black will face three-and-one-third to 10 years in state prison when sentenced in November.
