MONROE – In an effort to provide Monroe residents with more safety
and security, the village police department has begun to assign officers
to concentrated patrols on the Heritage Trail.

Officers from the department’s bicycle patrol unit will be assigned
to patrol the trail in conjunction with the current group of officers
already patrolling on a daily basis with an electric car and foot patrols.

“We want everyone to know whether they enter into the Village of
Monroe in a vehicle, on foot or on a bike, we are doing as much as we
possibly can to protect them and make them feel safe,” said Administrative
Sergeant Anthony Amatetti.

With the expansion of the trail into Harriman, the Monroe Police Department
is now responsible for three miles of the trail.

“Our goal is to provide everyone with a safe place they can go to
and enjoy with their families,” said Amatetti. “Our officers
will continue to maintain a highly visible presence to insure that they
trail is a safe and secure place for all to enjoy.”

Monroe officers were on patrol this week when they came upon a woman who
had suddenly collapsed and became unconscious while walking on the trail.
The officers summoned EMS and administered first aid until the ambulance
arrived.
