MID-HUDSON – RenewableNY has launched community solar, or shared solar electric service.
Katherine Nadeau, RenewableNY’s program director, said this service takes solar power to a new level.
“Whether you are a renter, you are in a multi-family house or apartment, whether you are a not-for-profit, a business, nearly anyone can sign up for community solar,” Nadeau said. “With community solar, you don’t have the panels or any of the equipment on your property. Everyone can sign up for these projects through community solar and take advantage of the sun’s energy.”
RenewableNY is a nonprofit partnership funded by NYSERDA. It is led by Catskill Mountainkeeper. The partnership includes Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County, Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, and Sustainable Hudson Valley. Together they serve 15 counties – Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland and Putnam in the Hudson Valley, and Tioga, Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Tompkins, Schuyler, Chemung, and Steuben in the Southern Tier Region.
