Yonkers police officer shot in the face

YONKERS – A female Yonkers Police officer is being treated after
she was shot in the face when officers responded to the vicinity of Marshall
Road at Ridge Drive Monday night on a complaint of a suspicious vehicle
occupied by two people.

When she arrived on the scene, one of the suspects pulled a firearm and
started shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire.

Officer Kayla Maher, a two-year veteran of the force, sustained a gunshot
wound to her jaw. She was transported to a local hospital and was listed
in serious but stable condition.

Police said two suspects were placed into custody at the scene. One was
transported to a hospital for gunshot wounds sustained during the incident;
his condition was listed as serious but stable.

The second suspect is in police custody.

A .40 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Police said no other suspects are being sought at this time.
The investigation is continuing.
