NEW CITY – Rockland County will apply for a more than $558,000 state homeland security grant, making this the tenth such grant secured for the sheriff’s office.
County Executive Edwin Day signed the resolution on Monday.
Sheriff Louis Falco said the funds will be used for the county’s counter-terrorism efforts.
“For emergency preparedness, for all of our seniors, active shooters, first aid kits, tactical equipment,” the sheriff said. “All of this off-sets everybody’s budgets without using their tax dollars or their municipal tax dollars. It goes beyond the county tax dollars; it reaches down to the towns and villages.”
The county legislature is expected to accept the grant.
