NEWBURGH – Effective immediately,
Newburgh City Comptroller Katie Mack has implemented a spending freeze.
Mack announced her decision to the city council Monday night while outlining
revenues and expenditures in the city through August.
“Any savings that we have had in personnel costs, salary costs, for unhired personnel I am going to move into a savings line that cannot be touched,” Mach said. “As of right now, anybody who has not been hired, we still have the ability to hire them, but if things continue to get tight, we may have to do something different. But, I will be watching that really closely.”
Newburgh officials are in the process of developing a 2018 budget. Mayor Judy Kennedy noted that the spending plan has remained constant for the last five years.
Between mandates, personnel costs and unexpected expenditures, the city continues to face a tight financial picture.
